Osteoarthritis: what should you know?

What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease in which the articular cartilage lining the bony surfaces inside a joint becomes progressively thinner until the bone beneath the cartilage on both sides of the joint ultimately becomes exposed. In the advanced stages of OA, the exposed bones rub against one another, causing pain and severely limited joint movement.

How is osteoarthritis treated?

Although there is no cure for OA, symptoms can generally be well controlled. Treatment of OA focuses on decreasing joint pain and stiffness, increasing the range of motion and functional independency, and decreasing disability. Anti-inflammatories/analgesics, thermal modalities, joint protection and footwear, surgical procedures, and patient education play an important role in increasing the quality of life of an OA sufferer.

Are nutritional supplements of value?

The following are of value: collagen/connective tissue building products like glucosamine sulphate, essential fatty acids, chondroitin sulphate, MSM, l-proline, dl-phenylalanine and other amino acids. Vitamin E and C, and other antioxidants like selenium and germanium prevent further damage to the joints. Minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese and silicon play a role in bone and connective tissue homeostasis.

In a clinical trial performed on athletes at the Institute for Sport Research (ISR), University of Pretoria (2001), 35 drops of Cellfood® a day proved to be of benefit not only for athletes, but OA patients as well.

  • An oxygen mineral supplement like Cellfood® is rapidly absorbed by the body. It assists with tissue oxygenation, thus aiding in the repair of connective tissues (including cartilage).

  • Cellfood® is also a powerful antioxidant (contains selenium, germanium, and antioxidant enzymes), boosting the immune system, and will therefore restrict further free radical damage in people with OA.
  • It contains traces of minerals providing essential nutrients like plant-sourced calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sulphur, zinc and silicon directly at cellular level.

  • Elements like hydrogen, minerals, amino acids and enzymes such as contained in Cellfood® assist the body in repairing and regenerating cells.

Cellfood® Repair

Cellfood® Repair consists of Cellfood® and Silica (a compound of silicon and oxygen, also known as silicon dioxide).

  • Silica is important for the formation of apatite crystals, and Silica is also necessary for the formation of collagen for bones, joints, tendons, connective tissue, and cartilage and for calcium absorption in the early stages of bone formation. Calcium, boron, manganese, magnesium, and potassium all aid in the efficient utilization of silicon - all made available in a sublingual form for better bio-availability and assimilation.

In summary:

Regular exercise, physical therapy, nutritional supplements like Cellfood / Cellfood® Repair, and drugs that reduce inflammation, can slow the progress of the disease, and thus make life more bearable for the OA sufferer.
